The Concept

The idea came to partner Brian Anderson, who has played in soccer leagues for many years. He realized how much effort it was for the team captains to manage the team's registration every season. Most times, the team managers paid the entire registration fee up front so they could get our schedules. Then, they would pester people for weeks to collect all of the money. Often, they wouldn't even collect everyone's payments. It was way too hard for them to stay organized, or they felt bad about pestering all the time. Most of us wanted to pay them on time -- we just always forgot our checkbooks!

That is where Pay It Square comes into play. It allows organizers to set up a web page with content about what they are collecting for, amount they need per person, and a list of friends they want to collect money from. They notify friends to pay with a simple e-mail. Friends get a link to the collect page, where they can see who is unpaid and paid and can pay online with their credit cards, bank accounts, or PayPal--or mark themselves paid offline. As soon as they pay online, the organizer receives a PayPal payment. If someone pays the organizer in person via cash or check, the organizer can mark them as paid offline, which keeps the process much more organized. The collect page lets everyone see who is paid and unpaid. It brings accountability and leads to faster payments by everyone involved.
